CONTINUOUS MONITORING

Monitor torsional vibration — use measurement data during operation.

ROTEC provides building blocks for ongoing measurement and assessment of rotating systems: online displays in RAS software, configurable limit monitoring and a data logger option for RASdelta. The configuration is matched to the measurement task, operating environment and required response.

From the measured quantity to a defined limit

A monitoring task needs clear measurement quantities, operating conditions and a defined response to a limit being exceeded. Data acquisition alone does not replace technical interpretation or the selection of appropriate limits.

  • Which quantities need to be measured continuously?
  • Which operating conditions need to be distinguished?
  • How should limit notifications be handled?

From the measurement task to the analysis

1. Define the task

Agree measurement points, relevant quantities and operating conditions.

2. Configure the measurement chain

Select sensors and RASdelta hardware to suit the required signals.

3. Display signals and monitor limits

RAS software supports online graphics, configurable limit monitoring and the trigger card’s alarm output.

4. Plan recording

A data logger option is available for RASdelta. Suitability, storage requirements and operating procedures must be agreed for the intended use.

Evaluate measurement data in context

Operating conditions and additional quantities provide context for the results. A time history can display different signals together; the signals and analysis methods are selected for the particular measurement task.

Example time histories measured on an electric drive
Example: electric-drive time histories during braking with ABS intervention. This is not a TE or continuous-monitoring case study.

Measurement and analysis components

Sensors, data acquisition and RAS software provide the basis for an agreed monitoring task.

Project-specific configuration

Define measurement quantities, limits and integration requirements before implementation.

Plan measurement and assessment around the task

Define operating conditions

Measurement points, environmental conditions and measurement duration determine the selection and configuration of the measurement chain.

Define the response to limits

Agree which values will be monitored and how limit notifications will be handled in the operating process.

Torsional vibration monitoring: your questions

Can RAS software monitor limits?

Yes. The product documentation describes configurable limit monitoring and the trigger card’s alarm output. The required configuration must be agreed for the project.

Can data be recorded without a connected PC?

A data logger option is offered for RASdelta. Availability and the configuration required for the intended use should be discussed with ROTEC.

What needs to be agreed before deployment?

Measurement points, duration, environmental conditions, storage requirements and handling of limit notifications must suit the installation. The configuration is agreed for each project.

What would you like to monitor during operation?

Describe your installation, measurement duration, operating conditions and required notifications. We can then assess a suitable measurement approach.
